A Digital University within the University

I've been making the case for digital literacy on this campus since the fall of 1993. We've made great strides with instructional support, IT skills and infrastructure. I see no progress in the creation of standards, goals, competencies for all university graduates, let alone faculty minimums. I've concluded we cannot turn the ocean liner in a new direction. It is too big, too insular, too fragmented. But we can create a school with a school, a digital university within the larger university that has its own budget, its own dean and its own faculty. We need the digital "skunkworks" to work out the future with those who are digitally literate or willing to become so to create tomorrow's university.
